Lens Ratings

I have put together a table of lenses I have used recently and rated them for performance on DSLR bodies, the D2X and D200 mostly but there has been a bit of D70 in there lately. I have based my rating on the following-

  1. Sharpness
  2. Color
  3. Speed
  4. Tonal Range

It is purely subjective and of no scientific value it is only my opinion. I will update it as I use other lenses.

70-200 AFS VR f2.8- 9
60mm Micro Nikkor- 8
12-24mm DX- 7
28-70 AFS f2.8- 9
17-55 DX f2.8- 6

D70 & 60mm Micro Nikkor

Been shooting with the outstanding 60mm micro nikkor-

Hand holding the micro nikkor at maximum focus can be an issue, I recommend setting the focuse and then mooving the camera in and out.

D200- Wow!

Well its here and what a greta camera. Built the way Nikons should be and with a load of features that give it a disitincly professional feel, seems to me they have placed this camera right in between the Eos 5D and the 20D- smart move.
What I Like

  • Exceptional color
  • B&W mode
  • Ability to group AF points
  • Grid display F80 style
  • Build quality
  • Uses manual lenses
  • Big bright veiwfinder
  • Big LCD

Drawbacks

  • Power consumption (around 4000 shots per battery)
  • No Nikon Capture- get over it and bundle the product

Sample Shot (more to come)

Shot this on the excellent 60mm Micro Nikkor, D200 like the D2X needs the best lenses you can find to really make thos 10 million pixels work for you.
